The Feast of the Baptism of Christ is known by Orthodox Christians as Theophany or Epiphany and is celebrated each year on January 6. The name comes from the activities of the day; the Baptism of Christ in the Jordan by John the Baptist, and at the same time the divine revelation of the Holy Trinity. The Apolytikion and Kontakion which are basically the main festal hymns for any feast of the Orthodox Church are sung on the feast day (Jan 6), which comes 40 days after the Nativity of Christ (Christmas), and goes on to be used until the leave-taking (Jan 14). They both carry the same message of the meaning behind the names Theophany/Epiphany, which is got from the scriptural passages of Mark 1:9-11; Matt 3:13-16;> Luke 3:21-22.>
The video you are about to watch is an extract from a past Theophany service in Central Africa. It includes a Divine Liturgy part and a part from the Great blessings of water, as done every January 6 in memory of the baptism of Christ in all Orthodox Churches. The Main focus of this video is the Troparion and Kontakion songs, sung in both services in Greek, Kiswahili and French. Both hymns are hereby given in three languages, as mostly used by the Greek Orthodox Churches in Eastern and Central Africa. At the beginning and end of the video is the icon of Christ being baptized, and the same will be shown on the Church iconography during the service.

GREEK: Ἀπολυτίκιον. Ἦχος αʹ
Ἐν Ἰορδάνῃ βαπτιζομένου σου Κύριε, ἡ τῆς Τριάδος ἐφανερώθη προσκύνησις· τοῦ γὰρ Γεννήτορος ἡ φωνὴ προσεμαρτύρει σοι, ἀγαπητὸν σε Υἱὸν ὀνομάζουσα· καὶ τὸ Πνεῦμα ἐν εἴδει περιστερᾶς, ἐβεβαίου τοῦ λόγου τὸ ἀσφαλές. Ὁ ἐπιφανεὶς Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός, καὶ τὸν κόσμον φωτίσας δόξα σοι.

As You were baptized in the Jordan, O Lord, then the worship of the Trinity became manifest, for the voice of the Father bore witness to You, naming You the Beloved Son; and the Spirit, in the form of a dove, confirmed the certainty of the word. O Christ God, who appeared and illumined the world, glory to You.

Both hymns are explaining the events that happened on the day Christ was baptized. The hymns explains that it was during the baptism of Christ that for the first time the entire world experienced the presence of the Trinity: The Son was being baptized (Mk 1:9; Mt 3:13: Lk 3:21),> the voice of The Father was heard confirming Christ as His Son (Mk 1:11: Mt 3:17;> Lk 3:22),> and The Spirit descended on Christ in the form of a dove (Mk 1:10;> Mt 3:16: Lk 3:22).> Now that humanity has confirmed from this revelation that Christ is the Son of God, who has only taken the human form in an economic way to save them from sin; to illumine the world that is been in darkness since the fall, they worship and glorify Him, calling Him their God. All these only confirms in a greater way, the meaning of the name of the Feast; Epiphany, meaning manifestation, or Theophany, meaning manifestation of God.</p>
