Fedor Vladimirovich Emelianenko (born 28 September 1976) is a Russian politician and retired heavyweight mixed martial artist, sambist, and judoka. He has won tournaments and accolades in multiple sports, most notably the Pride 2004 Grand Prix and the World Combat Sambo championship on four occasions, as well as medaling in the Russian national Judo championship.
From December 22, 2000 until June 26, 2010, Emelianenko was unbeaten in his 28 mma fights, including wins over five former UFC champions, five former K-1 champions and two former Olympic medalists. Sports Illustrated named him the top mma fighter of the decade. He is considered the best ground-and-pound artist in the history of sport. Sports and mma media; Espn, Bleacher report, Sherdog.com, mmafighting.com and FightMatrix.com list him as the greatest mma heavyweight fighter of all time. Emelianenko is also the longest reigning top Pound for Pound ranked fighter (7 years) in mma history. Former combat sports fighters Chuck Norris and Mike Tyson and other publications have called Emelianenko the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. Emelianenko retired from fighting on June 2012, and is now president of the Russian mma union.
Emelianenko's impact and legacy in mixed martial arts has been compared to the likes of Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Wayne Gretzky, Pele and Babe Ruth, and their status in their respective sports.
