http://www.eurocarnews.com - Volkswagen AG - Volkswagen is one of the pioneers of automatic parking assistance systems. The range on offer until now has featured systems that make parallel parking significantly easier. Now, making its debut on the new Touran, is a system that also makes it possible to park almost automatically at 90 degrees to the kerb. Here too the driver activates the system by pressing a button in the centre console. If, using ultrasound sensors in the bumpers, Park Assist now detects a large enough parking space, the assisted parking can begin: having put the vehicle into reverse, all the driver has to do is operate the accelerator and brake. The Touran takes care of the steering. The entire system has also been further improved: Park Assist now as a rule also makes it possible to parallel park in particularly small spaces (c. 5.20 metres) and to park on pavements and between trees.
