I Do Not Trust Ears (Ушам не верю)

Hello! Today I'm going to read a parable named "I Do Not Trust Ears".
In some Greek settlement in the Caucasus lived one kind elder. He helped everyone who addressed him, gave some wise advice and loved the fellow villagers.
However sometimes the elder behaved very strange — he raised hands and beat his own ears. In the settlement he was esteemed and respected, so the people, noticing similar behavior, were hesitating to ask him why he acts this way. Without finding the rational answer to a question, they have decided to go to the elder once and to find out everything.
The elder has quietly listened to the fellow villagers and said:
— I have lived with you all my life and I know each of you, but sometimes my ears convey false information to me that allegedly you pronounce swear words. I can't allow them to slander you and this is why I beat them for it.
After such words of the elder, people of that settlement have ceased to use obscene language.
